BSL - REHABILITATION AND EXTENSION OF A BARN NEAR TOULOUSE

Conversion of a traditional barn in the Toulouse region The project transforms a traditional barn located in Montauban, north of Toulouse, into a contemporary home while preserving the legibility of its existing structure. The new house is inserted between the original pillars of the barn, creating a dialogue between the existing rural architecture and the contemporary intervention. Partially embedded into the terrain, the house takes advantage of the site’s topography and the thermal inertia of the ground to naturally improve indoor comfort. This configuration also frees the roof to become a platform extending the living spaces into a covered terrace with expansive views over the surrounding countryside. The project therefore explores a restrained transformation of the existing structure, in which architecture, topography and bioclimatic principles work together to shape the house.
