TRF - ROOFTOP EXTENSION OF A BUILDING IN PARIS 17TH

Extension and façade renovation of a building in Paris 17th arrondissement The project involves the upward extension of a corner building in Paris through the addition of a new storey built with a timber-frame structure. Set slightly back from the existing façade, the new volume extends the building while introducing a contemporary architectural expression. The project also includes the renovation of the existing façade. The extension creates a new apartment with generous connections to the outdoors, opening onto a continuous balcony. The landscaped roof terrace features a summer lounge overlooking the rooftops of Paris’s 17th arrondissement. The use of a lightweight timber structure helps minimise the additional loads on the existing building while contributing to an exemplary approach in terms of energy and environmental performance. The project forms part of a broader reflection on the transformation of Paris’s existing building stock: increasing its capacity without demolition, while enhancing its architectural and environmental qualities.
